About / Bio Tom Bakker NSC (1989) graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2014, has evolved into a skilled Director of Photography, recognised for his organisational talent and creative insight in the realms of film and television. His journey began with an early fascination for photography, a passion that blossomed into a lifelong love for visual storytelling. Over the years, Tom has developed a unique skill in mastering the technical complexities of camera work, thereby providing directors with the space to focus on the story and actors. This ability, combined with a natural flair for visual aesthetics, has made him a respected name in the industry. Tom’s approach to filmmaking is evident not only in his professional projects but also in his personal life. In his workshop, a hotbed of creativity, he spends his free time crafting everything from furniture to specialized film equipment like a mirror that reflect film light as if it were shining through the leaves of a tree. These hobbies reflect his commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, both in front of and beyond the camera. His work on various projects like ‘Bodem’, ‘Kamp Koekieloekie’, and ‘That One Word – Feyenoord’ illustrates his adaptability to different genres and styles. But it’s his personal touch and dedication to each project that sets him apart. Tom strongly believes in the power of collaboration and sees each project as an opportunity to learn and grow as a filmmaker.
