Ilke Paddenburg

About / Bio Ilke Paddenburg (1988) is an award winning Dutch actor, writer, and director, known for her powerful and versatile presence on stage and screen. Since graduating from the Arnhem Theatre School in 2011, she has worked with leading Dutch theatre companies and, since 2019, has been a prominent member of International Theater Amsterdam (ITA). There, she has taken on complex leading roles in productions by directors such as Eline Arbo and Ivo van Hove.

In recent years, she expanded her practice to directing and screenwriting. Her debut short film, ‘A Day in the Life of a Female Frame’, premiered in competition at Les Arcs Film Festival 2023. Her second short, ‘A Shot at Art’ was selected for, and had its world premiere in the international competition of the Clermont Ferrand Film Festival, where the film won the International Audience Award. Its North American premiere will take place in the Narrative Short Competition of the SXSW festival in Austin.

In 2016, she received the Colombina Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘Een soort Hades’ (Theater Utrecht), with the jury commending the clarity and physicality with which she conveyed the character’s inner conflict. She was nominated again in 2022 for her performance in Robert Icke’s ‘The Doctor’ (ITA), recognized for its restrained intensity and emotional depth.

On screen, Paddenburg has appeared in among others ‘Het Kamp’ (Gouden Kalf nomination for Best Leading Role in a Short Film) and ‘Modern Love Amsterdam’.
