About / Bio Yücel Kopal (1982) is a Turkish-Dutch screenwriter and director whose unconventional journey from law student to cafeteria owner to scrap gold dealer shapes the raw and honest stories he tells. His work is often rooted in the influence of social environments on behavior, with a sharp sense of humor and strong human insight running through it.
He began his creative path writing for comedian friends but his drive to tell his own stories led to a selection in the first edition of #Nieuwestukken by the Podiumkunsten Fund. This marked the start of a broader writing career, including a spot in the Rose Stories Writersroom where he pitched and developed original work. Since then, he has written and directed for projects such as Mocro Maffia, Romaissa, Seefspees and SiHAME 2, where his ability to combine authenticity with emotional storytelling became increasingly visible.
Recently he wrote and directed the short film Paulien, a powerful and tender story starring Isa Hoes about a woman who tries to move forward after loss.
