About / Bio Ada Ozdogan (1989) is a born, raised and based in Amsterdam director and writer, graduated from the prestigious Institute of performing arts Maastricht. Her work evolves around themes as the malleability of identity and ideology. She’s fascinated by characters who struggle with being defined by their environment and society. Characters who make it their mission to refuse this prison of assumptions upon them, and are fighting to escape the different kinds of gazes that haunt them. She also considers her work as collections of homages to her great inspirers. As an artist, she feels that we are an echo of an echo of an echo.
Her work has been received as “furiously intelligent, powerful visionary, skillfully hilarious, visually compelling and filled with endlessly fascinating spectacles” by the Dutch critics. She has among others worked for Theater Rast, Theater Oostpool, Het Zuidelijk Toneel and Het Nationale Theater and made plays such as ‘Dubbelgangers’, ‘Grace’ (for which she received a BNG Theaterprijs nomination), and ‘The Returned’. Under her complex direction, filled with Tarantino-speak and popculture, Julia Ghysels won the prestigious Theo D’Or acting award for her roles in Ada’s ‘Holly Goosebumps’.
While continuing her work as a director and writer for theater, Ada currently is preparing to embark on her journey into the world of cinema.
